We waited on this one to get some feedback from our students from 3D Art....how are your mugs holding up?
3D Art students had a hot cocoa party towards the end of the school year to test if the ceramic mugs they constructed would hold liquid and we are happy to report, no one's cup had a leak! Enjoy the photos from the end of our ceramic unit, one of our favorite days.

A little flashback to a final project on the novel "Hoot" where students worked collaboratively on this past school year with Mrs. Coggins in english language arts!

Day three of Washington D.C. took the students to Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. The mansion is under restoration, however they toured the grounds, which included multiple outbuildings, the tomb of George and Martha Washington, a cemetery of unmarked graves of servants, and the docks down by the Potomac River. The students mentioned that the grounds were similar to Old World Wisconsin. The students got extra time at the Smithsonian in the afternoon, although after so much walking, a visit to one of the many snack trucks outside seemed like a good idea too! They finished off the sightseeing with a trip to the Smithsonian National Zoo, one of two zoos in the USA which has panda bears. The students had a great time covering the sights of Washington D.C. - each participant walked about 26 miles over the course of the weekend.

The Brookwood Washington D.C. trip began with everyone meeting at BMS at 2:45 AM on June 13th. Over the course of the weekend, students got a taste of the many things Washington D.C. has to offer. While the trip broadened students' perspectives of the historical sites they visited, it also brought new adventures while navigating the city and using different modes of transportation. The students had just left the zoo and were soon to be headed to the airport when they learned their flight home on Sunday had been cancelled. The group was flexible as they ended up with a bonus evening and change of plans. The group returned to Brookwood on Monday, with many of them expressing interest in travelling again in the future.
The next trip is scheduled to take place in 2027 and will be open to students entering sixth and seventh grades this fall. As details become available, informational meetings will be scheduled.

Create-A-Shed 2025 Summer School Session 1 & 2!
A group of talented middle school students recently wrapped up an exciting hands-on project, building a shed for our Brookwood community garden! Throughout the experience, students learned how to safely use tools, take accurate measurements, and explore a wide range of building techniques.
A huge shoutout to Mr. Erickson and Mr. Guth for their incredible leadership and for providing our students with such a valuable and memorable learning opportunity.
We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dunn Lumber of Lake Geneva for generously donating all the supplies and materials that made this project possible.
This was a truly meaningful collaboration that brought together learning, community, and purpose, what a fantastic way to build something lasting!

Students in Shakespeare in a Week wowed the audience with their performance of The Jungle Book! We are so proud of our talented actors and actresses, the crowd was truly impressed by their hard work and creativity within such a short week! Way to make us #BrookwoodProud!

On the final day of Passport to the World, our seasoned travelers explored the beauty and richness of Poland. We were thrilled to welcome guest speakers Angelica and Julia, both of which had parents born in Poland. Angelica treated us to delicious homemade pierogies and a variety of Polish delicacies, such a tasty experience! She also taught us a traditional Polish game, and we wrapped up the day with a beautiful Wycinanki paper-cutting craft. What a fantastic way to end our journey!

Our students who chose to take summer sewing practiced fine motor skills, how to read a pattern, and patience. Their “under the sea” and “woodland animals” creations turned out very cute.

Summer Cooking Class was a blast! They cooked scrambled eggs, grilled cheese, and bacon!!

Today, our world travelers journeyed to the awe-inspiring land of Egypt! We explored its rich history, discovered elements of modern culture, and even stepped into the shoes of archaeologists, unearthing hidden treasures. On the menu were delicious bites of pita with hummus and a sweet traditional Egyptian dessert called Kunafa. We even created our own kartush by writing our names in hieroglyphics. Where will our adventure take us tomorrow? Stay tuned!

A few more exciting shout-outs!! In May, the Walworth County Arts Council held their Annual Children's Art Exhibition at Elkhorn Middle School. The art exhibition showcases student artwork from Walworth County schools. Each school is allowed to submit 10 artists. Here are students from Brookwood Elementary and Middle School artist that were celebrated at this exhibition as a few were also unable to attend. Way to make us #MustangProud!!

We know these students were celebrated at their end of the year awards but wanted to make sure we made it "Website Official" --
This year past school year, a group of fourth and fifth graders went above and beyond in reading. They each logged more than 500 steps throughout the school year! These students earned the High Stepper Award for their outstanding effort and love of reading.
And we have to give a huge shoutout to Allie, who didn’t just meet the mark, she blew past it with over 1,000 reading steps, making her the top reader in the entire district!
Congratulations to all of our High Steppers. Your commitment to reading is something to celebrate!

On the second day of the Washington DC trip, students began their day at the Library of Congress. It was a favorite stop of the group because the Rotunda is exquisite. The students then toured the US Capitol, which they really enjoyed. The group became quite adept at using Metro since many of the roads in Washington DC were closed for the 250th Anniversary of the Army, so they were unable to use the bus. A rest by the fountains in the Sculpture Gardens, provided a bit of rest before they moved on to the Holocaust Museum. The students were able to see some of the artifacts from the Holocaust - things they have read about in school. They reported the most meaningful exhibits in the Holocaust were the display of shoes that were taken from the Jewish people, and the model of the Auschwitz Concentration/Extermination Center - which provided a deeper understanding of what took place there. The Holocaust Museum was a stop they really appreciated. After a delicious dinner, they went to the Kennedy Center; from the Terrace on the fourth floor, they watched the helicopter convoys fly into Washington DC for the celebration. We finished off the evening with a trip to see the September 11th Memorial at the Pentagon.
We are so #MustangProud of these students in taking advantage of this trip!! What great memories they will never forget. Thank you to Ms. Bullock for being out lead on this adventure to Washington D.C.

Nature-Based Summer School Class started with bird watching and scavenger hunts. The birds class heard northern cardinals, red winged blackbird, indigo bunting, and red eyed vireo. The foresters searched for things in the school forest that started with each letter of the alphabet. The groups found 18 out of 26! More fun tomorrow!

Guten Tag! Today in Passport to the World, our students journeyed to Germany! We explored German culture, uncovered pieces of its rich history, and even learned a few common words and phrases. To bring the experience to life, we tasted traditional German treats like sauerkraut, Black Forest cake, and pretzels! We also made our very own alpine hats to wear home. Tomorrow, our adventure continues as we head to Egypt!

SO excited to see all our students that have signed up for week 2 of art camp! Our students in week 1 had a blast!!!

The first summer school session of "Shakespeare in a Week" FLEW BY!! In just three days, a band of Brookwood students took up the tale of Tom Sawyer and turned it into a fine Readers Theatre performance. By the fourth day, they were up on stage, tellin’ the story. The audience was all smiles, and I reckon ol’ Tom himself would've been mighty proud.

Today, our summer school class, Passport to the World, took an exciting journey to China! Students explored the rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse landscapes of this fascinating country. We were especially honored to welcome Mrs. Xiong, whose father is from China and mother is from Hong Kong, to share personal stories and insights that brought our learning to life. To top it all off, we sampled some delicious traditional Chinese dishes! Check back tomorrow to see where our global adventure takes us next!
