Thanks to the Village of Genoa City, Brookwood students, and volunteers -- the 1st Annual School Forest Night Hike was a success! Families and individuals enjoyed the forest slightly lit up by recycled luminaries that were decorated by the students. At the end of the hike -- on the Tom Holden Trail was hot cocoa, snacks, and a warm fire! A few families took advantage of the park's playground as well! The forest was beautiful and the company was even better! We hope to see more people next year!

Students in Ms. Mohr's 7th grade social studies class have been learning about the Revolutionary War. Ms. Mohr paired up with Mr. Guth to create an active game in the gym where spies ran across the gym -- trying not to get caught -- so they could deliver a coded message regarding the war. Can you decode the messages?

The Middle School Student Council held a door decorating contest and we are SO excited to share with you their video!! Stay tuned to the end of the video to find out the winning classes:

Attention 8th grade families: Another reminder about a helpful event for incoming 9th graders to Badger High School.

The District is truly thankful for support of our families and community. Earlier this week, a group of volunteers on the community Readiness Team joined to work as a part of the Design Team on compiling the beginning looks to our Portrait of a Mustang. The work is going to be brought back to the students and staff for feedback and edits to ensure all parties have a say in this work to ensure all Mustangs are career, community,…life ready.

Thank you to the Badger academic counselors and athletic representative for coming to Brookwood to visit with our 8th graders!!! So excited for these next steps for our 8th graders….but don’t forget…you’re #ForeverAMustang

Today, our 8th graders had the opportunity to tour Badger High School in preparation for next year! They learned about everything Badger offers, both academically and extracurricularly, and there is something for everyone! Students left feeling excited for their next step & prepared with some ideas on the classes they plan to take. They’re looking forward to tomorrow when the Badger academic counselors will visit Brookwood to prepare our students for the registration process. A representative from athletics will also be here to talk about all of the opportunities available to students at Badger. Please ask your child to share how their experience went!

We hope you enjoy this month's Mustang Minute:

The 7th and 8th grade band had the opportunity to travel to Badger yesterday! They worked on prepared music with other middle school students from LGMS and played with the Badger Wind Ensemble students. Together, they worked on musical concepts such as articulation, dynamics, and attention to detail. It was also wonderful to see some Brookwood alumni in the high school band! What a great morning of music!

Our fourth grade musicians are having fun learning to play the recorder in music class! So far they have learned about properly holding and blowing into the recorders to make the best sound. They have learned their first two notes and can’t wait to learn more. Be sure to attend their Spring Music Festival Concert on Wednesday, May 15 to hear their progress!

Ms. Bullock attended the AIME (Active and Integrative Music Education) Conference at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point on Saturday. She was one of over twenty presenters for the day. Ms. Bullock presented her research into Teaching the Music of the Holocaust to Middle Schoolers and the benefits of the sociotransformative constructivism philosophy. That is taking what the students already know, making their learning relevant to the present, so they can apply it to their future learning. In addition to the music of the Holocaust unit in this manner, she teaches about the music of the Olympics, Morse Code, and many other topics.
Way to make us Mustang Proud!!
