THEY MADE IT!! We made it! The shore path adventures has successfully made it all 21 miles around Geneva Lake. They learned about the history of the lake, points of interest and even did some calculations to find our walking speed and distance. Congratulations on this major accomplishment! Students in the seed to table class sowed carrots, lettuce, and cucumber seeds this week. Green pepper plants were fun to plant and water. After watering, hoeing, digging, weed pulling and planting, they enjoyed the sweetness of fresh strawberries from the strawberry bed! Mrs. Kanthack needs lots of help this summer to tend the garden so we can provide produce for our community food pantry and those in need. Please consider donating some time and contact her by email. All volunteers have access to the produce for their families! MaryEllen.Kanthack@gcj2.k12.wi.us

What a school year…but we made it! As tradition follows, our staff waved our students goodbye as the buses, cars, bikes, and walkers headed away from our buildings. Our staff then headed to the middle school to enjoy a district recognition and closing ceremony. The administrative staff was able to serve our district staff their lunch and the following staff members were recognized for benchmark years of service to our district: Kellie Bohn; 20 years, Stephanie Arshem; 5 years, Briana Brenek; 5 years, Karen Bullock; 5 years, Megan Hanson; 5 years, Lauren Skalecki; 5 years. The longevity of the years of service our overall staff has is one of the key pieces that makes our district a special place. For the final pieces of our closing meeting, our staff headed outside and stood in a circle listening to Ms. Bohn’s closing speech where she referenced a portion Phil Jackson’s book: Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success: “As educators, we gather children in circles in our classrooms pretty regularly, and it’s not entirely uncommon, especially pre-Covid, for us to begin or end our staff meetings in a circle as well. We know that in our classrooms, and with each other, the circle is a symbol of community. It represents the connection that we have with the others in the circle. ‘But circles actually have a deeper meaning: In Native American culture, for instance, the unifying power of the circle was so meaningful that whole nations were conceived as a series of interconnected rings (or hoops). The tepee was a ring, as were the campfire, the village, and the layout of the nation itself—circles within circles, having no beginning or end.’ (Jackson, Phil, and Hugh Delehanty. Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success. New York: Penguin Press, 2013.) A circle represents and is a symbolic of vitality, wholeness, completion, and perfection. So, as we end this challenging school year, we come together in a circle--to feel connected, protected and whole. To feel united by the experiences that we have shared, strengthened by the challenges that we have overcome, and supported by the colleagues that we value. In just a couple of minutes, you’ll leave our circle, wrap up your classroom, and begin your summer. Even though we will not be together for awhile, we are still connected as a Brookwood family. As a reminder of that, I’m sending you home with a circle of your own--as a reminder of this day, this year, this community.”

For the first time this year, the Kindergarteners joined together to perform: https://youtu.be/XV6ZAMJGg0o The melody for "I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee" was composed by Colonel Sandford C. Faulkner. We added an extra verse at the beginning. They practiced a steady beat, and worked on expression. They also sang the song "I'm Growing Up" by Mary Alice Amidon. It has been a pleasure working with the Kindergarteners this year. They have excelled under unusual circumstances; it will be exciting to watch them continue to grow musically. -Mrs. Bullock // BES & BMS Music Teacher
