April was School Library Month, and we celebrated a couple of ways here at Brookwood: with library-themed jokes on Friday announcements, and with a bookmark decorating contest! Bookmarks had to be related to reading or books in some way. We had over 60 entries between the two schools, and here are our winners. Thank you to all of our artists who submitted a bookmark and everybody else for voting for your favorites! Happy reading, Mustangs!" Photo captions: Reading On A Rainbow - Winter, 1st grade Bee! Did you know that next week is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week? This year's theme is Flip the Script. A lot of times when we refer to Mental Health we may think of Depression, Anxiety, Therapy, Medication, but that isn’t always the case. In ‘Flipping the Script’ we need to think more about our Mental Health as a whole. Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Too often there is a stigma related to Mental Health and we need to Flip The Script and encourage open communication about Mental Health. Throughout next week there will be daily posts regarding Children’s Mental Health and how you can help support your child at home. On Friday, May 7th we will be showing awareness and acceptance for Children’s Mental Health by wearing Green and we hope you will join in!

The second graders worked on learning how to play the drums and the xylophones over the past two months. While we were not able to practice as a large group due to covid, we got together one time so that the students would have the opportunity to experience the instruments within a large ensemble. The students did a terrific job listening and working together. We all look forward to the day when we can practice together and bring a performance to you in person! https://youtu.be/s-X5mrBKiek

Kindergarten scientist have been studying living and non-living objects in their space. They have learned that living incorporates growing, taking in food, and having babies. This includes plants! Some classes are growing beans and some are growing flowers for a butterfly garden thanks to one of their virtual classmates!
