4K students, families, and teachers enjoyed playing a variety of games and sharing snacks together. It was a great opportunity for the youngsters to practice cooperation skills and taking turns. It was great to see the families mingling and enjoying each others company.

The kindergarten students have been practicing their writing skills by labeling their pictures and work. To kick off their farm unit, they painted paper plates to make their own 3D pumpkin and added labels to the parts of the pumpkin.

In the 2nd quarter, 8th grade began science by working on their team-building. They went from small group to whole class teams by trying to untangle string that each scientist held. This was super successful as they had to use strong communication, listening, and collaboration problem-solving. Not to mention it was loud and hilarious! They also worked on observation skills by having a random pan of objects for 2 minutes and then having it taken away. The objective was to remember as many objects as possible. Different strategies were used by different teams and then discussed at the end. As they start learning about the body systems, they outlined a partner and attempted to remember as many of the 19 bones that they are required to know as possible. Core 3 was during 4th grade recess and a couple of them joined in on the fun! So far it has been an amazing start to the 2nd quarter!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Our GCJ2 Families in Need program is designed to help out families in our district who are having difficulty meeting the immediate needs for their children, which include but are not limited to clothing and toiletries for the children and laundry assistance for the family. This year, we currently have 56 children enrolled in our program for our holiday bundle boxes which supply cold weather clothing for these children. Only 25 children have been "adopted".....we are in need of your support to get the rest of the 31 taken care of. Please help us help these children with some immediate needs for this winter season. You can "adopt" these children by purchasing the items for their holiday bundle box or donate monetarily to our Families in Need Program. Click on the following link to read more about this program and to sign up to help. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5VqnxePA4GTPImtasH51s3EYhij-ughXSCtxPffRT_moVHw/viewform If you have questions, please contact Helen Xiong directly at Helen.Xiong@gcj2.k12.wi.us

Our 6th-grade students recently hosted an exciting Spanish-Speaking Country Folk Fair, where they immersed themselves and others in the cultures of various Spanish-speaking countries. Each student created a colorful and informative project board highlighting a specific country's traditions, geography, and cultural significance. To bring the experience to life, they prepared authentic dishes representing their chosen countries, giving the visiting 5th graders a delicious taste of diverse flavors. This interactive event allowed students to connect with and celebrate Hispanic cultures while sharing their learning with younger peers in a fun and engaging way. It was a fantastic opportunity for all involved to broaden their perspectives and appreciate the richness of these cultures!

Sharing Your Greatness! We ask our Brookwood families to share with us what our Brookwood students are doing outside of school so we can share in your greatness and how #MustangProud we are of your accomplishments!! If you have something to share....email it to Mrs. Xiong at Helen.Xiong@gcj2.k12.wi.us Our next sharer of greatness is Hailey from our middle school. Hailey recently won 1st place at a Equestrian competition!! Ever since she was a little kid she has always had a secret passion for working with horses and was given the nickname of “horse whisperer” by her grandmother. Her mother had found a stable called Pistakee Bay Stable where Hailey was able to train with a beautiful but sassy horse named Ikra. She is thankful for her instructor Peter who continued to work with her and Ikra to compete in their first competition on October 20th where they won a first place ribbon. Congrats, Hailey — way to make us #MustangProud!!!

Students in 7/8th grade robotics are working on completing various different robotics challenges. Some students are working on the Godzilla challenge, where they need to build and program a robot to knock down as many skyscrapers as possible in 2 minutes. Other students are working on completing Mars rover scenario maps. Each map has a different objective that requires students to build and program a robot to complete that specific map objective. Finally, some students are working on a drag race challenge. They need to use gearing to build and program a robot to drive a 30 foot distance in the shortest time possible. Each project requires students to design, build, and program a robot to complete that specific objective. Problem solving and creative thinking are needed to build and program a successful robot.

In 2nd grade, they have been learning about what it means to be a good citizen and different aspects of government and elections. In honor of the U.S election, they held their own mock election this week. In their election, students were able to try out and vote for their favorite flavor of oreos: chocolate or golden. The students filled out their Voter Registration Card and ballot and turned it into the ballot box. Votes were counted and chocolate won by a landslide victory of 28 to 11! What a fun experience!

5th grade students have been working hard to write their own science fiction stories. Last week, they had some help from the 8th graders! Two of Ms. Metcalf's Language Arts classes offered their expertise on improving the stories and proofreading! This was a big help to the 5th graders! It was great to see such positive and genuine collaboration happening across the grade levels!
