Students in Mrs. Erickson's 4th grade science class have been learning about light and how light can be reflected in many different ways. Recently, they participated in an exploration light lab. Students were challenged to reflect light in different ways by using pie pans, tubes, the white board, and many other materials. They did a great job and were able to write down their observations in their science lab notebooks. Great work, 4th graders!

On Saturday, March 4th, Brookwood music students participated in the Wisconsin School Music Association's (WSMA) District Solo Ensemble Contest at Lake Geneva Middle School. Twelve students participated in solos and duets, earning five first place finishes and three second place finishes. The students worked with their band or choir teacher to learn their music outside of band or choir classes. This festival helps develop well-rounded musicians through preparation of music that is frequently different from what they might encounter in a band or choral setting. A deeper understanding of the many facets of musical performance evolves throughout the process, and the students receive feedback from a qualified adjudicator. The Volleyball A teams had a blast at the Wheatland tournament today. The girls rocked it…starting slow on Friday night, but ended up as the Bronze Champs!! Coach Erickson is so proud of their positivity, their communication, and their ability to work together!! The boys played well this weekend as well! Their serving was strong and they greatly improved their skills. The team is ready to head into the last two games of the regular season. Way to go, Mustangs!!!

Today starts our reading challenge for the month of March at BOTH buildings. The contest is to see which homeroom at each school can read their way across the United States (approximately 2,892 miles {2,892 minutes}). There will be two classrooms who win at each school: one classroom who makes it across the U.S. first and one classroom who reads the most minutes during the month. Each week, your child will be bringing home a reading log. Keep track of the minutes read at home for the week (this week goes from today through Sunday). Return your logs each Monday so we can tally the minutes up. Here's a picture of a map that will show each classrooms' progress. (Thank you to the middle school students who made the maps for each school!) Have fun reading, Mustangs. :)

The girls are doing an amazing job with communicating on the court, working together as a team, and moving their feet! Our next home game is on Tuesday, March 7th, so come cheer them on!
