The Kindness Rocks Project encourages simple acts of kindness in our community. By decorating a rock with an encouraging message, you can brighten someone's day! Brookwood Elementary art students painted rocks to place in a kindness rock garden in front of their school. The rocks are there for the community to enjoy. If you see a rock that "speaks" to you, you are welcome to take it to brighten your day! Pictured are Brookwood artists in their Kindness Rocks Project. Thank you to @HighPrairieLandsapeSupply for donating rocks for our students to continue to build to our #Brookwoodrocks wall. You all ROCK!

The 3rd graders will visit the middle school on Friday to get a sneak peek into the middle school. They will be given a tour, meet the 4/5 teachers (including the related arts teachers), and eat lunch here at the middle school. This is always a pleaser for the students because they get to go through the lunch line with a tray instead of a packaged meal. The great news is that they will not have to worry about locker combinations this year, because we took the lock faces off the lockers.

The Genoa City Jt. 2 School Board recognized Heather Hoerth with a “Children First” Award at tonight’s Board Meeting. The Children First Awards were started in the fall of 2015 to recognize people who were making an extra effort to support the children in our school and community. The Board recognizes all of the work that Hoerth has done during the COVID-19 Pandemic to support children, families, staff, and community members working through the challenges associated with COVID-19. She has been a champion for consistent mitigation measures, a necessary and trusted resource to administrators and the Board in making COVID-related decisions, and a source of calm and reassurance to families working through countless worrisome situations. Hoerth’s tireless efforts in going above and beyond her regular duties to support our entire school community during this very challenging time, the Board looks forward to presenting her with a Children First Award. Congratulations, Heather Hoerth!

Did you know that our 6th graders had Friday off?! Why, you may ask...? On Thursday, our students were able to stay late at Camp Wonderland to enjoy a night hike, take part in the traditional campfire with roasting marshmallows, and enjoy the great outdoors until 9pm! They had two AWESOME days at camp....and we are sure they've gained some memories they will never forget.

Don't forget about the BFO Reading Competition!! https://youtu.be/bhth8VUHQeY How does it work? This will be an individual competition by grade level. It is all based on the number of minutes read by not only the student but their family members, neighbors, friends outside of our school district, and even distant relatives! We want ALL our students to develop a love of reading for pleasure, for knowledge, and for adventure. We are hoping that this challenge will help to support each student’s personal reading development goal. Check out the original video from Talya from the BFO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iXFq... Outdoor education has been a part of Brookwood’s curriculum for over 30 years. Outdoor education is taught at Camp Wonderland in Salem, WI. While at Camp Wonderland students get to learn through activities such as fishing, dissecting owl pellets, hiking through nature, and learning how to build a fire. Students also get to participate in some adventurous activities including boating, rock climbing, ziplining, and archery. Camp is a great experience for our 6th grade students and we are really excited to offer this experience to our students this year —even though it may look a little different from how it’s been done in the past. Check out some of our 6th graders taking on the rock wall!

Mustangs! We are SO excited to announce that the free breakfast and lunch program has been extended through next school year!! This is due to a waiver received by our Food Service Provider, Lake Geneva Food Service. Lake Geneva Food Service will also be running a summer meal pick up program--pick up locations will be announced at a later date. Also, the Lake Geneva Food Service will be sending out letters in regards to current lunch balances that were negative prior to the start of the waivers for our food programming started. We understand that paying these balances may be an impossibility due to the economic challenges created by the pandemic but wanted to make sure to let you know these letters will be being sent home. If you have additional questions, please contact Donna Ecklund Donna.Ecklund@badger.k12.wi.us
