The Brookwood Family Organization is excited to announce our end of the year reading competition! This will be an individual competition by grade level. It is all based on the number of minutes read by not only the student but their family members, neighbors, friends outside of our school district, and even distant relatives! We want ALL our students to develop a love of reading for pleasure, for knowledge, and for adventure. We are hoping that this challenge will help to support each student’s personal reading development goal.

April was School Library Month, and we celebrated a couple of ways here at Brookwood: with library-themed jokes on Friday announcements, and with a bookmark decorating contest! Bookmarks had to be related to reading or books in some way. We had over 60 entries between the two schools, and here are our winners. Thank you to all of our artists who submitted a bookmark and everybody else for voting for your favorites! Happy reading, Mustangs!"

Did you know that next week is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week?
This year's theme is Flip the Script. A lot of times when we refer to Mental Health we may think of Depression, Anxiety, Therapy, Medication, but that isn’t always the case. In ‘Flipping the Script’ we need to think more about our Mental Health as a whole. Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Too often there is a stigma related to Mental Health and we need to Flip The Script and encourage open communication about Mental Health.
Throughout next week there will be daily posts regarding Children’s Mental Health and how you can help support your child at home.
On Friday, May 7th we will be showing awareness and acceptance for Children’s Mental Health by wearing Green and we hope you will join in!

We are so excited that this year our 2nd grade scientists get to work with not only chicks but ducklings! They will be making comparisons between the chicks and the ducklings!

Spring has sprung at BES! First grade is learning how to hatch chicks. These scientists are “candling” the eggs to see if any growth has happened! andddd….YES there is inside of the egg!!!!
After the chicks have hatched, the scientists will look for similarities between the chicks and the adult chickens.

Please see the following letter from our School Counselors in regards to the Protective Behaviors Unit coming up in May. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to them directly.
